Vela, Gerard R. (School of Aerospace Medicine, Brooks Air Force Base, Tex.), and Orville Wyss. Radiation resistance of soil Azotobacter. J. Bacteriol. 89:1280-1285. 1965.-Quantitative recovery of Azotobacter from soils subjected to gamma-radiation from a cobalt-60 source showed the soil populations to be much more highly resistant than isolates from such cultures grown on laboratory media. Even in the encysted state, the laboratory populations were reduced 10,000-fold by exposure to 200 kr, whereas the soil populations were not measurably reduced by that dose.

Nitrogen fixation capacity of Azotobacter spp. strains isolated from soils in different ecosystems and relationship between them and the microbiological properties of soils.
The objectives of this study were to count and culture Azotobacter spp. in sampled soils, to determine the nitrogen (N) fixing capacity byAzotobacter spp. in pure culture and different soils, and to explore the relationships between N fixation capacity of Azotobacter spp. and microbiological properties of soils in Northern Anatolia, Turkey. Statistically significant relationships were found bet...
متن کاملEFFECT OF INOCULATING A SOIL WITH AZOTOBACTER UPON PLANT GROWTH AND NITROGEN BALANCE ' By P. L. GAINEY Soil bacteriologist, Kansas Agricultural Experiment Station INTRODUCTION
In 1923 a 20-year experiment was begun in an effort to gain information on the following points: (1) The factors that influence the longevity of Azotobacter when introduced into a soil from which it is normally absent; (2) the effect of introducing and maintaining an Azotobacter flora in such a soil upon the crop-producing abihty and the nitrogen balance of the soil. The recent comprehensive su...

Potential of Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria and Chemical Fertilizers on Soil Enzymes and Plant Growth
The present investigation deals with the role of Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria and chemical fertilizers alone or in combination on urease, invertase and phosphatase activities of rhizospheric soil and also on general impact on growth of safflower cvv. Thori and Saif-32. The PGPR (Azospirillum brasilense and Azotobacter vinelandii) were applied at 10cells/mL as seed inoculation prior to s...
